Welcome to the Space Exploration Alliance Legislative Blitz Wiki
This wiki is intended to support planning for the Space Exploration Allance Legislative Blitz scheduled for Sunday, February 22, 2009 through Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
Invitation Letter
Dear "Legislative Blitz" Participant:
A new Congress, and a new administration, will soon be taking office, with the first order of business being to respond to an economic crisis of global proportions. Now, perhaps more than ever before, it is absolutely critical that the voices of the space advocacy community be heard in the debate over the future of our nation’s space program. (Attached is an excerpt from the 2001 book, “Flight: My Life in Mission Control”, pp. 353-355, by Chris Kraft, former Flight Director for the Mercury missions and many of the Gemini missions. His words from seven years ago, especially the ones in the last paragraph, are particularly relevant today. (Insert Attachment Link Here))
The Space Exploration Alliance is gearing up for its next “Legislative Blitz” in Washington, D.C. This event will be held from Sunday, February 22, 2009 through Tuesday, February 24, 2009. As in past Blitzes, a training session will be held on Sunday afternoon, with our meetings with congressional offices scheduled on Monday and Tuesday.
The overriding theme of our February 2009 visit to Capitol Hill will be that space must be a national priority. An appropriately funded space program will not only provide unprecedented advances in science and technology, but it will also energize and encourage our nation’s youth to pursue careers in engineering and science. It will stimulate new growth industries, and create thousands of new jobs. We need space, and the vast resources that it offers, to enable us to stimulate our economy, to address the problems of an ever-growing population, and to help us solve the increasing energy needs of our nation and our civilization.
I hope that you will be able to join us this February. Please let me know as soon as possible whether or not you will be able to attend.
Rick Zucker Chairman, Space Exploration Alliance’s February 2009 Legislative Blitz Vice President of Public Affairs, National Space Society
